Meaning One should meditate upon the Supreme Mother whose body glows like vermilion and the rising sun, who has three eyes, whose crown of rubies is adorned with the crescent moon, who has a smiling face and full, elevated bosom, who holds in her hands a jewelled cup full of honey and a red lotus, who is gentle, and whose red feet rest upon a pedestal of gems.
अरुणां करुणातरङ्गिताक्षीं धृतपाशाङ्कुशपुष्पबाणचापाम्।
अणिमादिभिरावृतां मयूखैरहमित्येव विभावये भवानीम्॥

Meaning I meditate upon Bhavani (the Goddess) who is of a crimson hue, whose eyes ripple with compassion, who holds the noose, the goad, flower arrows, and a bow, who is surrounded by rays of light and by the powers of Anima and the other Siddhis, contemplating 'I am She.'
ध्यायेत्पद्मासनस्थां विकसितवदनां पद्मपत्रायताक्षीं हेमाभां पीतवस्त्रां करकलितलसद्धेमपद्मां वराङ्गीम्।

Meaning The Divine Goddess is to be meditated upon as seated on the lotus with petal eyes. She is golden hued, and has lotus flowers in Her hand. She dispels fear of the devotees who bow before Her. She is the embodiment of peace, knowledge (vidyA), is praised by gods and grants every kind of wealth wished for.
सकुङ्कुमविलेपनामलिकचुम्बिकस्तूरिकां समन्दहसितेक्षणां सशरचापपाशाङ्कुशाम्।
अशेषजनमोहिनीमरुणमाल्यभूषाम्बरां जपाकुसुमभासुरां जपविधौ स्मरेदम्बिकाम्॥

Meaning I meditate on the Mother, whose eyes are smiling, who holds the arrow, bow, noose and the goad in Her hand. She is glittering with red garlands and ornaments. She is painted with kumkuma on her forehead and is red and tender like the japa flower.

मनोरूपेक्षुकोदण्डा पञ्चतन्मात्रसायका।

पञ्चयज्ञप्रिया पञ्चप्रेतमञ्चाधिशायिनी॥१७४॥
vyomakeśī vimānasthā vajriṇī vāmakeśvarī| pañcayajñapriyā pañcapretamañcādhiśāyinī||174||
Meaning Vyomakeśī — She whose hair is the sky — Śakti of Vyomakeśa (Śiva), Vimānasthā — She who abides in the celestial chariot (vimāna), Vajriṇī — The wielder of the thunderbolt (vajra), Vāmakeśvarī — The presiding deity of the Vāmakeśvara Tantra, Pañcayajñapriyā — She who delights in the five great sacrifices, Pañcapretamañcādhiśāyinī — She who reclines on the couch formed by the five 'corpses' (Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra, Īśvara, Sadāśiva)
पञ्चमी पञ्चभूतेशी पञ्चसंख्योपचारिणी।
शाश्वती शाश्वतैश्वर्या शर्मदा शम्भुमोहिनी॥१७५॥
pañcamī pañcabhūteśī pañcasaṃkhyopacāriṇī| śāśvatī śāśvataiśvaryā śarmadā śambhumohinī||175||
Meaning Pañcamī — The fifth one (the Śakti presiding over the five forms), Pañcabhūteśī — Mistress of the five elements, Pañcasaṃkhyopacāriṇī — She who is worshipped with the five ritual offerings (pañcopacāra), Śāśvatī — The eternal one, Śāśvataiśvaryā — She whose sovereignty is eternal, Śarmadā — Bestower of happiness and bliss, Śambhumohinī — She who enchants Śambhu (Śiva)
धराधरसुता धन्या धर्मिणी धर्मवर्धिनी।
लोकातीता गुणातीता सर्वातीता शमात्मिका॥१७६॥
dharādharasutā dhanyā dharmiṇī dharmavardhinī| lokātītā guṇātītā sarvātītā śamātmikā||176||
Meaning Dharādharasutā — Daughter of the mountain (Himavat, bearer of the earth), Dhanyā — The blessed one, Dharmiṇī — The righteous one, upholder of dharma, Dharmavardhinī — She who fosters and increases dharma, Lokātītā — She who transcends all worlds, Guṇātītā — She who is beyond the three guṇas, Sarvātītā — She who transcends all, Śamātmikā — She who is of the nature of tranquillity
बन्धूककुसुमप्रख्या बाला लीलाविनोदिनी।
सुमङ्गली सुखकरी सुवेषाढ्या सुवासिनी॥१७७॥
bandhūkakusumaprakhyā bālā līlāvinodinī| sumaṅgalī sukhakarī suveṣāḍhyā suvāsinī||177||
Meaning Bandhūkakusumaprakhyā — Radiant like the red bandhūka flower, Bālā — The ever-youthful maiden (the goddess Bālā), Līlāvinodinī — She who delights in cosmic play (līlā), Sumaṅgalī — The auspicious, ever-blessed one, Sukhakarī — Bestower of happiness, Suveṣāḍhyā — Resplendent in beautiful raiment, Suvāsinī — The auspicious married woman (suvāsinī)
सुवासिन्यर्चनप्रीताऽऽशोभना शुद्धमानसा।
बिन्दुतर्पणसन्तुष्टा पूर्वजा त्रिपुराम्बिका॥१७८॥
suvāsinyarcanaprītā''śobhanā śuddhamānasā| bindutarpaṇasantuṣṭā pūrvajā tripurāmbikā||178||
Meaning Suvāsinyarcanaprītā — Pleased by the worship offered to suvāsinīs, Āśobhanā — The wholly resplendent one, Śuddhamānasā — She of pure mind, Bindutarpaṇasantuṣṭā — Gratified by the oblation offered at the bindu (centre of the Śrī Chakra), Pūrvajā — The primordial, first-born one, Tripurāmbikā — The Mother Tripurā (Tripurāmbikā)
दशमुद्रासमाराध्या त्रिपुराश्रीवशङ्करी।
ज्ञानमुद्रा ज्ञानगम्या ज्ञानज्ञेयस्वरूपिणी॥१७९॥
daśamudrāsamārādhyā tripurāśrīvaśaṅkarī| jñānamudrā jñānagamyā jñānajñeyasvarūpiṇī||179||
Meaning Daśamudrāsamārādhyā — She who is worshipped by means of the ten mudrās, Tripurāśrīvaśaṅkarī — She who brings the splendour of Tripurā under sway, bestower of vaśīkaraṇa, Jñānamudrā — She who is the seal (mudrā) of knowledge, Jñānagamyā — She who is reached through knowledge, Jñānajñeyasvarūpiṇī — She who is of the nature of both knowledge and the knowable
योनिमुद्रा त्रिखण्डेशी त्रिगुणाम्बा त्रिकोणगा।
अनघाऽद्भुतचारित्रा वाञ्छितार्थप्रदायिनी॥१८०॥
yonimudrā trikhaṇḍeśī triguṇāmbā trikoṇagā| anaghā'dbhutacāritrā vāñchitārthapradāyinī||180||
Meaning Yonimudrā — She who is the Yoni-mudrā, Trikhaṇḍeśī — Mistress of the trikhaṇḍā mudrā (the three-part seal), Triguṇāmbā — Mother of the three guṇas, Trikoṇagā — She who abides in the central triangle of the Śrī Chakra, Anaghā — The sinless, faultless one, Adbhutacāritrā — Of wondrous deeds and conduct, Vāñchitārthapradāyinī — Bestower of all desired objects
अभ्यासातिशयज्ञाता षडध्वातीतरूपिणी।
अव्याजकरुणामूर्तिरज्ञानध्वान्तदीपिका॥१८१॥
abhyāsātiśayajñātā ṣaḍadhvātītarūpiṇī| avyājakaruṇāmūrtirajñānadhvāntadīpikā||181||
Meaning Abhyāsātiśayajñātā — She who is realized through sustained, intense practice, Ṣaḍadhvātītarūpiṇī — Whose form transcends the six adhvans (cosmic paths), Avyājakaruṇāmūrtiḥ — The very embodiment of causeless compassion, Ajñānadhvāntadīpikā — The lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance
आबालगोपविदिता सर्वानुल्लङ्घ्यशासना।
श्रीचक्रराजनिलया श्रीमत्त्रिपुरसुन्दरी॥१८२॥
ābālagopaviditā sarvānullaṅghyaśāsanā| śrīcakrarājanilayā śrīmattripurasundarī||182||
Meaning Ābālagopaviditā — Known to all, even to children and cowherds, Sarvānullaṅghyaśāsanā — Whose command none can transgress, Śrīcakrarājanilayā — She who dwells in the Śrī Chakra, king of yantras, Śrīmattripurasundarī — The glorious Tripurasundarī, supreme beauty of the three worlds
श्रीशिवा शिवशक्त्यैक्यरूपिणी ललिताम्बिका।
एवं श्रीललिता देव्या नाम्नां साहस्रकं जगुः॥
śrīśivā śivaśaktyaikyarūpiṇī lalitāmbikā| evaṃ śrīlalitā devyā nāmnāṃ sāhasrakaṃ jaguḥ||
Meaning śrīśivā — the auspicious one, the eternal benign power of Śiva, śivaśaktyaikyarūpiṇī — the embodiment of the non-dual union of Śiva and Śakti, lalitāmbikā — Lalitā the Mother — the supreme Goddess whose thousand names these are. Thus the gods sang the thousand names of the Goddess Śrī Lalitā.
॥ इति श्रीब्रह्माण्डपुराणे उत्तरखण्डे श्रीहयग्रीवागस्त्यसंवादे श्रीललितासहस्रनामस्तोत्रकथनं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
|| iti śrībrahmāṇḍapurāṇe uttarakhaṇḍe śrīhayagrīvāgastyasaṃvāde śrīlalitāsahasranāmastotrakathanaṃ sampūrṇam ||
Meaning Thus concludes the recitation of the Śrī Lalitā Sahasranāma Stotram, narrated in the dialogue between Śrī Hayagrīva and Agastya in the Uttara-khaṇḍa of the Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa.
