jaya ambe gaurī, maiyā jaya śyāmā gaurī| tumako niśidina dhyāvata, hari brahmā śivarī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

māṃga sindūra virājata, ṭīko mṛgamada ko| ujjvala se dou nainā, candravadana nīko|| jaya ambe gaurī||

kanaka samāna kalevara, raktāmbara rājai| raktapuṣpa gala mālā, kaṇṭhana para sājai|| jaya ambe gaurī||

kehari vāhana rājata, khaḍga khappara dhārī| sura nara munijana sevata, tinake dukhahārī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

kānana kuṇḍala śobhita, nāsāgre motī| koṭika candra divākara, sama rājata jyotī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

śumbha niśumbha vidāre, mahiṣāsura ghātī| dhūmra vilocana nainā, niśadina madamātī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

caṇḍa muṇḍa saṃhāre, śoṇita bīja hare| madhu kaiṭabha dou māre, sura bhayahīna kare|| jaya ambe gaurī||

brahmāṇī rudrāṇī tuma kamalā rānī| āgama nigama bakhānī, tuma śiva paṭarānī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

cauṃsaṭha yoginī maṃgala gāvata, nṛtya karata bhairoṃ| bājata tāla mṛdaṃgā, aru bājata ḍamarū|| jaya ambe gaurī||

tuma hī jaga kī mātā, tuma hī ho bharatā| bhaktana kī dukha haratā, sukha sampatti karatā|| jaya ambe gaurī||

bhujā cāra ati śobhita, vara mudrā dhārī| manavāṃchita phala pāvata, sevata nara nārī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

kaṃcana thāla virājata, agara kapūra bātī| śrīmālaketu meṃ rājata, koṭi ratana jyotī|| jaya ambe gaurī||

śrī ambejī kī āratī jo koī nara gāve| kahata śivānanda svāmī sukha sampatti pāve|| jaya ambe gaurī||

Introduction

“Jai Ambe Gauri” is the most famous and popular aarti dedicated to Goddess Durga. This aarti is especially sung during Navratri and Durga Puja. It describes the various forms and boundless power of Goddess Durga. Mother Ambe is addressed as Gauri (the fair-complexioned one).

Significance

The Durga Aarti holds special significance as Goddess Durga is considered the deity of Shakti (divine power). This aarti describes the nine forms of the Mother Goddess and Her divine powers. Singing this aarti daily during Navratri pleases the Mother Goddess, who fulfills all the wishes of Her devotees.

How to Perform

  1. Light a ghee lamp before the idol or image of Goddess Durga
  2. Offer red flowers, a red cloth (chunari), and sindoor (vermillion)
  3. Sing the aarti while moving the plate in a clockwise circular motion before the Goddess
  4. Perform this aarti every evening during Navratri
  5. Offer halwa, puri, and chana (chickpeas) as prasad
