Meaning This is the eleventh chapter, named the 'Nārāyaṇī-stuti' (the Hymn to Nārāyaṇī). (An invocatory title line.)
। ध्यानम् ।
ॐ बालरविद्युतिमिन्दुकिरीटां तुङ्गकुचां नयनत्रययुक्ताम् ।
स्मेरमुखीं वरदाङ्कुशपाशाभीतिकरां प्रभजे भुवनेशीम् ॥

oṃ bālaravidyutimindukirīṭāṃ tuṅgakucāṃ nayanatrayayuktām |
smeramukhīṃ varadāṅkuśapāśābhītikarāṃ prabhaje bhuvaneśīm ||
Meaning Meditation — I worship Bhuvaneśī, the Sovereign of the worlds: radiant as the newly-risen sun, moon-crowned, full-breasted, three-eyed, her face wreathed in a smile, her hands holding the boon-giving gesture, the goad, the noose, and the gesture of fearlessness.
ॐ ऋषिरुवाच ॥ ११.१॥
oṃ ṛṣiruvāca || 11.1||
देव्या हते तत्र महासुरेन्द्रे
सेन्द्राः सुरा वह्निपुरोगमास्ताम् ।
कात्यायनीं तुष्टुवुरिष्टलाभाद्
विकाशिवक्त्राब्जविकाशिताशाः ॥ ११.२॥
devyā hate tatra mahāsurendre
sendrāḥ surā vahnipurogamāstām |
kātyāyanīṃ tuṣṭuvuriṣṭalābhād
vikāśivaktrābjavikāśitāśāḥ || 11.2||
Meaning When the great lord of the asuras had there been slain by the Goddess, the gods with Indra, led by Agni, praised Kātyāyanī — for they had won the boon they longed for; their lotus-faces broke into bloom, and so the very quarters of the sky grew radiant.
देवि प्रपन्नार्तिहरे प्रसीद
प्रसीद मातर्जगतोऽखिलस्य ।
प्रसीद विश्वेश्वरि पाहि विश्वं
त्वमीश्वरी देवि चराचरस्य ॥ ११.३॥
devi prapannārtihare prasīda
prasīda mātarjagato'khilasya |
prasīda viśveśvari pāhi viśvaṃ
tvamīśvarī devi carācarasya || 11.3||
Meaning O Goddess who takes away the anguish of all who seek refuge, be gracious; be gracious, O Mother of the whole world; be gracious, O Sovereign of the universe, and guard the universe — for you, O Goddess, are the ruler of all that moves and does not move.
आधारभूता जगतस्त्वमेका
महीस्वरूपेण यतः स्थितासि ।
अपां स्वरूपस्थितया त्वयैत-
दाप्यायते कृत्स्नमलङ्घ्यवीर्ये ॥ ११.४॥
ādhārabhūtā jagatastvamekā
mahīsvarūpeṇa yataḥ sthitāsi |
apāṃ svarūpasthitayā tvayaita-
dāpyāyate kṛtsnamalaṅghyavīrye || 11.4||
Meaning You alone are the foundation of the world, for it is as the very form of the earth that you abide; and abiding as the form of the waters, by you, O Goddess of unassailable might, is all this nourished and sustained.
त्वं वैष्णवीशक्तिरनन्तवीर्या
विश्वस्य बीजं परमासि माया ।
सम्मोहितं देवि समस्तमेतत्
त्वं वै प्रसन्ना भुवि मुक्तिहेतुः ॥ ११.५॥
tvaṃ vaiṣṇavīśaktiranantavīryā
viśvasya bījaṃ paramāsi māyā |
sammohitaṃ devi samastametat
tvaṃ vai prasannā bhuvi muktihetuḥ || 11.5||
Meaning You are the Vaiṣṇavī power of boundless valor; you are the seed of the universe, the supreme Māyā. By you, O Goddess, is this whole world cast into delusion; and you, when gracious, become here on earth the very cause of liberation.
विद्याः समस्तास्तव देवि भेदाः
स्त्रियः समस्ताः सकला जगत्सु ।
त्वयैकया पूरितमम्बयैतत्
का ते स्तुतिः स्तव्यपरापरोक्तिः ॥ ११.६॥
vidyāḥ samastāstava devi bhedāḥ
striyaḥ samastāḥ sakalā jagatsu |
tvayaikayā pūritamambayaitat
kā te stutiḥ stavyaparāparoktiḥ || 11.6||
Meaning All the branches of knowledge, O Goddess, are your aspects; all women throughout the worlds are your forms. By you alone, O Mother, is all this filled and pervaded. What praise can be worthy of you, who lie beyond every utterance — higher than the highest, and past all words of praise?
सर्वभूता यदा देवी भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनी ।
त्वं स्तुता स्तुतये का वा भवन्तु परमोक्तयः ॥ ११.७॥
sarvabhūtā yadā devī bhuktimuktipradāyinī |
tvaṃ stutā stutaye kā vā bhavantu paramoktayaḥ || 11.7||
Meaning Since you, O Goddess, have become all beings, the giver of both enjoyment and liberation — when you are praised, what words, even the loftiest, could ever be praise enough?
सर्वस्य बुद्धिरूपेण जनस्य हृदि संस्थिते ।
स्वर्गापवर्गदे देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.८॥
sarvasya buddhirūpeṇa janasya hṛdi saṃsthite |
svargāpavargade devi nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.8||
Meaning O you who abide in the heart of every being as the faculty of intelligence, O bestower of heaven and of final liberation, O Goddess Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
कलाकाष्ठादिरूपेण परिणामप्रदायिनि ।
विश्वस्योपरतौ शक्ते नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.९॥
kalākāṣṭhādirūpeṇa pariṇāmapradāyini |
viśvasyoparatau śakte nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.9||
Meaning O you who, taking the form of the moments and measures of time, bring all things to their transformation; O Power in whom the universe finds its dissolution — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके ।
शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१०॥
sarvamaṅgalamāṅgalye śive sarvārthasādhike |
śaraṇye tryambake gauri nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.10||
Meaning O Auspiciousness of all things auspicious, O gracious Śivā, accomplisher of every aim, O refuge of all, three-eyed Gaurī — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
सृष्टिस्थितिविनाशानां शक्तिभूते सनातनि ।
गुणाश्रये गुणमये नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.११॥
sṛṣṭisthitivināśānāṃ śaktibhūte sanātani |
guṇāśraye guṇamaye nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.11||
Meaning O eternal One who are the very power of creation, preservation, and destruction; O ground of the three qualities, O you who are made of those qualities — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
शरणागतदीनार्तपरित्राणपरायणे ।
सर्वस्यार्तिहरे देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१२॥
śaraṇāgatadīnārtaparitrāṇaparāyaṇe |
sarvasyārtihare devi nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.12||
Meaning O you ever intent on delivering the lowly and the afflicted who come to you for shelter; O Goddess who takes away the pain of all — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
हंसयुक्तविमानस्थे ब्रह्माणीरूपधारिणि ।
कौशाम्भःक्षरिके देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१३॥
haṃsayuktavimānasthe brahmāṇīrūpadhāriṇi |
kauśāmbhaḥkṣarike devi nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.13||
Meaning O you enthroned in a chariot yoked with swans, bearing the form of Brahmāṇī; O you who besprinkle with the sanctified water of kuśa grass — O Goddess Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
त्रिशूलचन्द्राहिधरे महावृषभवाहिनि ।
माहेश्वरीस्वरूपेण नारायणि नमोऽस्तुते ॥ ११.१४॥
triśūlacandrāhidhare mahāvṛṣabhavāhini |
māheśvarīsvarūpeṇa nārāyaṇi namo'stute || 11.14||
Meaning O you who bear the trident, the moon, and the serpent, whose mount is the mighty bull; who abide as Māheśvarī — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
मयूरकुक्कुटवृते महाशक्तिधरेऽनघे ।
कौमारीरूपसंस्थाने नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१५॥
mayūrakukkuṭavṛte mahāśaktidhare'naghe |
kaumārīrūpasaṃsthāne nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.15||
Meaning O you attended by peacock and cock, wielder of the great spear, O sinless One; who stand forth in the form of Kaumārī — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
शङ्खचक्रगदाशार्ङ्गगृहीतपरमायुधे ।
प्रसीद वैष्णवीरूपे नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१६॥
śaṅkhacakragadāśārṅgagṛhītaparamāyudhe |
prasīda vaiṣṇavīrūpe nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.16||
Meaning O you who have taken up the supreme weapons — conch, discus, mace, and Śārṅga bow; be gracious, O you in the form of Vaiṣṇavī — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
गृहीतोग्रमहाचक्रे दंष्ट्रोद्धृतवसुन्धरे ।
वराहरूपिणि शिवे नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१७॥
gṛhītogramahācakre daṃṣṭroddhṛtavasundhare |
varāharūpiṇi śive nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.17||
Meaning O you who grip the dread great discus, who raised the earth aloft upon your tusk; O gracious One in the form of the Boar — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
नृसिंहरूपेणोग्रेण हन्तुं दैत्यान् कृतोद्यमे ।
त्रैलोक्यत्राणसहिते नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१८॥
nṛsiṃharūpeṇogreṇa hantuṃ daityān kṛtodyame |
trailokyatrāṇasahite nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.18||
Meaning O you who, in the terrible form of the Man-Lion, set yourself to slay the daityas; O you devoted to the deliverance of the three worlds — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
किरीटिनि महावज्रे सहस्रनयनोज्ज्वले ।
वृत्रप्राणहरे चैन्द्रि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.१९॥
kirīṭini mahāvajre sahasranayanojjvale |
vṛtraprāṇahare caindri nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.19||
Meaning O you crowned with a diadem, wielding the great thunderbolt, ablaze with a thousand eyes; O slayer of Vṛtra's life, O Aindrī — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
शिवदूतीस्वरूपेण हतदैत्यमहाबले ।
घोररूपे महारावे नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२०॥
śivadūtīsvarūpeṇa hatadaityamahābale |
ghorarūpe mahārāve nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.20||
Meaning O you who, in the form of Śivadūtī, crushed the mighty host of the daityas; O you of dread aspect and thunderous roar — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
दंष्ट्राकरालवदने शिरोमालाविभूषणे ।
चामुण्डे मुण्डमथने नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२१॥
daṃṣṭrākarālavadane śiromālāvibhūṣaṇe |
cāmuṇḍe muṇḍamathane nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.21||
Meaning O you whose face is fearsome with fangs, adorned with a garland of severed heads; O Cāmuṇḍā, crusher of Muṇḍa — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
लक्ष्मि लज्जे महाविद्ये श्रद्धे पुष्टि स्वधे ध्रुवे ।
महारात्रि महामाये नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२२॥
lakṣmi lajje mahāvidye śraddhe puṣṭi svadhe dhruve |
mahārātri mahāmāye nārāyaṇi namo'stu te || 11.22||
Meaning O Lakṣmī, O Modesty, O great Knowledge, O Faith, O Nourishment, O Svadhā, O Constant One; O great Night of dissolution, O great Māyā — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
मेधे सरस्वति वरे भूति बाभ्रवि तामसि ।
नियते त्वं प्रसीदेशे नारायणि नमोऽस्तुते ॥ ११.२३॥
medhe sarasvati vare bhūti bābhravi tāmasi |
niyate tvaṃ prasīdeśe nārāyaṇi namo'stute || 11.23||
Meaning O Intelligence, O Sarasvatī, O excellent One, O Prosperity, O Bābhravī, O dark Tāmasī; O ordaining One, be gracious, O Sovereign — O Nārāyaṇī, salutations to you.
सर्वस्वरूपे सर्वेशे सर्वशक्तिसमन्विते ।
भयेभ्यस्त्राहि नो देवि दुर्गे देवि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२४॥
sarvasvarūpe sarveśe sarvaśaktisamanvite |
bhayebhyastrāhi no devi durge devi namo'stu te || 11.24||
Meaning O you whose form is all, ruler over all, endowed with every power; save us from all fears, O Goddess Durgā — O Goddess, salutations to you.
एतत्ते वदनं सौम्यं लोचनत्रयभूषितम् ।
पातु नः सर्वभूतेभ्यः कात्यायनि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२५॥
etatte vadanaṃ saumyaṃ locanatrayabhūṣitam |
pātu naḥ sarvabhūtebhyaḥ kātyāyani namo'stu te || 11.25||
Meaning May this gentle face of yours, graced with three eyes, guard us from all beings — O Kātyāyanī, salutations to you.
ज्वालाकरालमत्युग्रमशेषासुरसूदनम् ।
त्रिशूलं पातु नो भीतेर्भद्रकालि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ ११.२६॥
jvālākarālamatyugramaśeṣāsurasūdanam |
triśūlaṃ pātu no bhīterbhadrakāli namo'stu te || 11.26||
Meaning May your trident — fearsome with flame, exceedingly fierce, destroyer of all the asuras — protect us from fear; O Bhadrakālī, salutations to you.
हिनस्ति दैत्यतेजांसि स्वनेनापूर्य या जगत् ।
सा घण्टा पातु नो देवि पापेभ्यो नः सुतानिव ॥ ११.२७॥
hinasti daityatejāṃsi svanenāpūrya yā jagat |
sā ghaṇṭā pātu no devi pāpebhyo naḥ sutāniva || 11.27||
Meaning That bell of yours, which fills the world with its clangor and shatters the daityas' might — may it guard us, O Goddess, from all sins, as a mother guards her children.
असुरासृग्वसापङ्कचर्चितस्ते करोज्ज्वलः ।
शुभाय खड्गो भवतु चण्डिके त्वां नता वयम् ॥ ११.२८॥
asurāsṛgvasāpaṅkacarcitaste karojjvalaḥ |
śubhāya khaḍgo bhavatu caṇḍike tvāṃ natā vayam || 11.28||
Meaning O Caṇḍikā, may your sword — gleaming in your hand, smeared with the mire of the asuras' blood and fat — bring us wellbeing; we bow low before you.
रोगानशेषानपहंसि तुष्टा
रुष्टा तु कामान् सकलानभीष्टान् ।
त्वामाश्रितानां न विपन्नराणां
त्वामाश्रिता ह्याश्रयतां प्रयान्ति ॥ ११.२९॥
rogānaśeṣānapahaṃsi tuṣṭā
ruṣṭā tu kāmān sakalānabhīṣṭān |
tvāmāśritānāṃ na vipannarāṇāṃ
tvāmāśritā hyāśrayatāṃ prayānti || 11.29||
Meaning When gracious, you drive away every disease; but when angered, you thwart all cherished desires. No calamity befalls those who have taken shelter in you; indeed, those who have found refuge in you themselves become a refuge for others.
एतत्कृतं यत्कदनं त्वयाद्य
धर्मद्विषां देवि महासुराणाम् ।
रूपैरनेकैर्बहुधात्ममूर्तिं
कृत्वाम्बिके तत्प्रकरोति कान्या ॥ ११.३०॥
etatkṛtaṃ yatkadanaṃ tvayādya
dharmadviṣāṃ devi mahāsurāṇām |
rūpairanekairbahudhātmamūrtiṃ
kṛtvāmbike tatprakaroti kānyā || 11.30||
Meaning This carnage of the great, dharma-hating asuras that you have wrought today, O Goddess — casting your single Self into many forms in manifold ways — who else, O Mother, could ever accomplish it?
विद्यासु शास्त्रेषु विवेकदीपे-
ष्वाद्येषु वाक्येषु च का त्वदन्या ।
ममत्वगर्तेऽतिमहान्धकारे
विभ्रामयत्येतदतीव विश्वम् ॥ ११.३१॥
vidyāsu śāstreṣu vivekadīpe-
ṣvādyeṣu vākyeṣu ca kā tvadanyā |
mamatvagarte'timahāndhakāre
vibhrāmayatyetadatīva viśvam || 11.31||
Meaning In the sciences, in the scriptures, in the lamps of discernment, and in the primal (Vedic) words — who is there but you? And yet it is you who whirls this whole world astray, deep in the pit of possessive attachment, in that overwhelming darkness.
रक्षांसि यत्रोग्रविषाश्च नागा
यत्रारयो दस्युबलानि यत्र ।
दावानलो यत्र तथाब्धिमध्ये
तत्र स्थिता त्वं परिपासि विश्वम् ॥ ११.३२॥
rakṣāṃsi yatrograviṣāśca nāgā
yatrārayo dasyubalāni yatra |
dāvānalo yatra tathābdhimadhye
tatra sthitā tvaṃ paripāsi viśvam || 11.32||
Meaning Where there are demons and serpents of deadly venom, where there are foes and hordes of bandits, where there is a raging forest-fire, and there in the midst of the ocean — there too you stand, and guard the world.
विश्वेश्वरि त्वं परिपासि विश्वं
विश्वात्मिका धारयसीह विश्वम् ।
विश्वेशवन्द्या भवती भवन्ति
विश्वाश्रया ये त्वयि भक्तिनम्राः ॥ ११.३३॥
viśveśvari tvaṃ paripāsi viśvaṃ
viśvātmikā dhārayasīha viśvam |
viśveśavandyā bhavatī bhavanti
viśvāśrayā ye tvayi bhaktinamrāḥ || 11.33||
Meaning O Sovereign of the universe, you protect the universe; being its very soul, you uphold it here. You are worthy of worship even by the Lord of the universe; and those who bow before you in devotion become themselves a refuge for the world.
देवि प्रसीद परिपालय नोऽरिभीते-
र्नित्यं यथासुरवधादधुनैव सद्यः ।
पापानि सर्वजगतां प्रशमं नयाशु
उत्पातपाकजनितांश्च महोपसर्गान् ॥ ११.३४॥
devi prasīda paripālaya no'ribhīte-
rnityaṃ yathāsuravadhādadhunaiva sadyaḥ |
pāpāni sarvajagatāṃ praśamaṃ nayāśu
utpātapākajanitāṃśca mahopasargān || 11.34||
Meaning Be gracious, O Goddess; ever guard us from the fear of foes, as this very moment you have guarded us by the slaying of the asuras. Swiftly bring to rest the sins of all the worlds, and the great afflictions born of the ripening of evil portents.
प्रणतानां प्रसीद त्वं देवि विश्वार्तिहारिणि ।
त्रैलोक्यवासिनामीड्ये लोकानां वरदा भव ॥ ११.३५॥
praṇatānāṃ prasīda tvaṃ devi viśvārtihāriṇi |
trailokyavāsināmīḍye lokānāṃ varadā bhava || 11.35||
Meaning Be gracious to us who bow before you, O Goddess who takes away the world's affliction; O you whom the dwellers of the three worlds extol, be the giver of boons to all the worlds.
देव्युवाच ॥ ११.३६॥
devyuvāca || 11.36||
Meaning The Goddess said:
वरदाहं सुरगणा वरं यन्मनसेच्छथ ।
तं वृणुध्वं प्रयच्छामि जगतामुपकारकम् ॥ ११.३७॥
varadāhaṃ suragaṇā varaṃ yanmanasecchatha |
taṃ vṛṇudhvaṃ prayacchāmi jagatāmupakārakam || 11.37||
Meaning O hosts of gods, I am the giver of boons. Whatever boon your hearts desire, ask it, and I shall grant it — such as brings good to the worlds.
देवा ऊचुः ॥ ११.३८॥
devā ūcuḥ || 11.38||
सर्वाबाधाप्रशमनं त्रैलोक्यस्याखिलेश्वरि ।
एवमेव त्वया कार्यमस्मद्वैरिविनाशनम् ॥ ११.३९॥
sarvābādhāpraśamanaṃ trailokyasyākhileśvari |
evameva tvayā kāryamasmadvairivināśanam || 11.39||
Meaning O Ruler of all, in just this way must you accomplish the stilling of every affliction of the three worlds and the destruction of our foes.
देव्युवाच ॥ ११.४०॥
devyuvāca || 11.40||
Meaning The Goddess said:
वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे प्राप्ते अष्टाविंशतिमे युगे ।
शुम्भो निशुम्भश्चैवान्यावुत्पत्स्येते महासुरौ ॥ ११.४१॥
vaivasvate'ntare prāpte aṣṭāviṃśatime yuge |
śumbho niśumbhaścaivānyāvutpatsyete mahāsurau || 11.41||
Meaning When the Vaivasvata age of Manu is reached, in the twenty-eighth cycle, two other great asuras — Śumbha and Niśumbha — will come to be.
नन्दगोपगृहे जाता यशोदागर्भसम्भवा ।
ततस्तौ नाशयिष्यामि विन्ध्याचलनिवासिनी ॥ ११.४२॥
nandagopagṛhe jātā yaśodāgarbhasambhavā |
tatastau nāśayiṣyāmi vindhyācalanivāsinī || 11.42||
Meaning Then, born in the house of Nanda the cowherd, sprung from Yaśodā's womb, and dwelling on the Vindhya mountain, I shall destroy those two.
पुनरप्यतिरौद्रेण रूपेण पृथिवीतले ।
अवतीर्य हनिष्यामि वैप्रचित्तांश्च दानवान् ॥ ११.४३॥
punarapyatiraudreṇa rūpeṇa pṛthivītale |
avatīrya haniṣyāmi vaipracittāṃśca dānavān || 11.43||
Meaning Again, descending to the earth in a most terrible form, I shall slay the dānavas born of Vipracitti.
भक्षयन्त्याश्च तानुग्रान् वैप्रचित्तान् महासुरान् ।
रक्ता दन्ता भविष्यन्ति दाडिमीकुसुमोपमाः ॥ ११.४४॥
bhakṣayantyāśca tānugrān vaipracittān mahāsurān |
raktā dantā bhaviṣyanti dāḍimīkusumopamāḥ || 11.44||
Meaning And as I devour those fierce great asuras, the Vaiprachittas, my teeth shall turn red, like the blossoms of the pomegranate.
ततो मां देवताः स्वर्गे मर्त्यलोके च मानवाः ।
स्तुवन्तो व्याहरिष्यन्ति सततं रक्तदन्तिकाम् ॥ ११.४५॥
tato māṃ devatāḥ svarge martyaloke ca mānavāḥ |
stuvanto vyāhariṣyanti satataṃ raktadantikām || 11.45||
Meaning Thereafter the gods in heaven and men in the mortal world, singing my praise, will ever call me 'Raktadantikā', the red-toothed.
भूयश्च शतवार्षिक्यामनावृष्ट्यामनम्भसि ।
मुनिभिः संस्मृता भूमौ सम्भविष्याम्ययोनिजा ॥ ११.४६॥
bhūyaśca śatavārṣikyāmanāvṛṣṭyāmanambhasi |
munibhiḥ saṃsmṛtā bhūmau sambhaviṣyāmyayonijā || 11.46||
Meaning And again, when a hundred-year drought comes, rainless and waterless, remembered by the sages I shall appear upon the earth, though born of no womb.
ततः शतेन नेत्राणां निरीक्षिष्याम्यहं मुनीन् ।
कीर्तयिष्यन्ति मनुजाः शताक्षीमिति मां ततः ॥ ११.४७॥
tataḥ śatena netrāṇāṃ nirīkṣiṣyāmyahaṃ munīn |
kīrtayiṣyanti manujāḥ śatākṣīmiti māṃ tataḥ || 11.47||
Meaning Then with a hundred eyes I shall look upon the sages, and men will thereafter glorify me by the name 'Śatākṣī', the hundred-eyed.
ततोऽहमखिलं लोकमात्मदेहसमुद्भवैः ।
भरिष्यामि सुराः शाकैरावृष्टेः प्राणधारकैः ॥ ११.४८॥
tato'hamakhilaṃ lokamātmadehasamudbhavaiḥ |
bhariṣyāmi surāḥ śākairāvṛṣṭeḥ prāṇadhārakaiḥ || 11.48||
Meaning Then, O gods, until the rains return I shall sustain the whole world with life-giving vegetables sprung from my own body.
शाकम्भरीति विख्यातिं तदा यास्याम्यहं भुवि ।
तत्रैव च वधिष्यामि दुर्गमाख्यं महासुरम् ॥ ११.४९॥
śākambharīti vikhyātiṃ tadā yāsyāmyahaṃ bhuvi |
tatraiva ca vadhiṣyāmi durgamākhyaṃ mahāsuram || 11.49||
Meaning Then I shall become renowned on earth as 'Śākambharī', and there too I shall slay the great asura named Durgama.
दुर्गादेवीति विख्यातं तन्मे नाम भविष्यति ।
पुनश्चाहं यदा भीमं रूपं कृत्वा हिमाचले ॥ ११.५०॥
durgādevīti vikhyātaṃ tanme nāma bhaviṣyati |
punaścāhaṃ yadā bhīmaṃ rūpaṃ kṛtvā himācale || 11.50||
Meaning And my name shall then become famed as 'Durgādevī'. And again, when I, taking a terrible form upon the Himālaya mountain —
रक्षांसि भक्षयिष्यामि मुनीनां त्राणकारणात् ।
तदा मां मुनयः सर्वे स्तोष्यन्त्यानम्रमूर्तयः ॥ ११.५१॥
rakṣāṃsi bhakṣayiṣyāmi munīnāṃ trāṇakāraṇāt |
tadā māṃ munayaḥ sarve stoṣyantyānamramūrtayaḥ || 11.51||
Meaning — shall devour the rakshasas for the protection of the sages, then all the sages, their forms bowed low, will sing my praise.
भीमादेवीति विख्यातं तन्मे नाम भविष्यति ।
यदारुणाख्यस्त्रैलोक्ये महाबाधां करिष्यति ॥ ११.५२॥
bhīmādevīti vikhyātaṃ tanme nāma bhaviṣyati |
yadāruṇākhyastrailokye mahābādhāṃ kariṣyati || 11.52||
Meaning My name shall then become famed as 'Bhīmādevī'. And when the asura named Aruṇa shall work great havoc in the three worlds —
तदाहं भ्रामरं रूपं कृत्वासङ्ख्येयषट्पदम् ।
त्रैलोक्यस्य हितार्थाय वधिष्यामि महासुरम् ॥ ११.५३॥
tadāhaṃ bhrāmaraṃ rūpaṃ kṛtvāsaṅkhyeyaṣaṭpadam |
trailokyasya hitārthāya vadhiṣyāmi mahāsuram || 11.53||
Meaning — then, taking the form of a swarm of countless bees, for the good of the three worlds I shall slay that great asura.
भ्रामरीति च मां लोकास्तदा स्तोष्यन्ति सर्वतः ।
इत्थं यदा यदा बाधा दानवोत्था भविष्यति ॥ ११.५४॥
bhrāmarīti ca māṃ lokāstadā stoṣyanti sarvataḥ |
itthaṃ yadā yadā bādhā dānavotthā bhaviṣyati || 11.54||
Meaning And then people everywhere will extol me as 'Bhrāmarī'. Thus, whenever affliction arising from the dānavas shall arise —
तदा तदावतीर्याहं करिष्याम्यरिसङ्क्षयम् ॥ ११.५५॥
tadā tadāvatīryāhaṃ kariṣyāmyarisaṅkṣayam || 11.55||
Meaning — then and again I shall descend and bring about the annihilation of those foes.
नारायणीस्तुतिर्नामैकादशोऽध्यायः ॥ ११॥
nārāyaṇīstutirnāmaikādaśo'dhyāyaḥ || 11||
Meaning Thus ends the eleventh chapter, named the 'Nārāyaṇī-stuti'. (A closing colophon line.)
