Introduction

The Shri Ketu Kavacham is a protective “armour” hymn dedicated to Ketu, the shadowy node counted among the nine planets (Navagraha) and traditionally associated with the Brahmanda Purana. Invoking Ketu through his many forms and names — Chitravarna (the many-hued), the smoke-hued one, the tawny-eyed one, the son of Simhika, the lord of the planets and others — the devotee seeks protection for every limb from head to foot, and the closing verse recounts the fruit of wearing and reciting it.

The Sanskrit text is reproduced verbatim from a canonical source; the meanings are explanatory. For correct pronunciation and practice, guidance from a qualified teacher is advisable.
