binu satsaṃga viveka na hoī, rāma kṛpā binu sulabha na soī| satsaṃgata muda maṃgala mūlā, soi phala sidhi saba sādhana phūlā||

nāmu rāma ko kalapataru, kali kalyāna nivāsu| jo sumirata bhayo bhām̐ga te, tulasī tulasīdāsu||

tulasī isa saṃsāra meṃ, bhām̐ti bhām̐ti ke loga| sabase hasa mila bolie, nadī nāva saṃjoga||

mukhiyā mukha so cāhie, khāna-pāna ko eka| pālai poṣai sakala aṃga, tulasī sahita bibeka||

tulasī sāthī vipatti ke, vidyā vinaya viveka| sāhasa sukṛti susatyavrata, rāma bharose eka||

tulasī bharose rāma ke, nirbhaya ho ke soya| anahonī honī nahīṃ, honī ho so hoya||

parahita sarisa dharma nahiṃ bhāī, parapīṛā sama nahiṃ adhamāī| nara sevā hī prabhu sevā, saba se ūpara yahī bhakti mevā||

Introduction

The dohas of Goswami Tulsidas are invaluable gems of devotion, morality, wisdom, and propriety. Drawn from the Ramcharitmanas, Dohavali, and Vinay Patrika, these couplets convey messages of devotion to Lord Rama, the importance of holy company, humility, and righteous conduct. Tulsidas’s verse carries the exquisite beauty of the Awadhi and Braj languages. These couplets have been guiding Indian society for centuries.

Meanings are compiled and edited by the Ved Path team, and are being progressively reviewed for accuracy.
